Dr. Dre & Timbaland to sign Hayes

Producer and Aftermath CEO Dr. Dre is teaming up with producer Timbaland for an upcoming project for rapper Hayes.

“Me and Dre just signed this guy named Hayes from Detroit. Incredible storyteller. Incredible. Reminds me of how B.I.G. tells his stories. He kind of was around the table. He wrote some of Dre’s Detox – if Dre is ever gonna do it – but he wrote a lot of that for Dre. He’s just been around the camp. I knew him from my homeboy, so he’s been around both camps. Me and Dre both think he’s a crazy artist. So we said: Let’s do him together.”

Call it takeover. After only 2 weeks of circulating his demo on the streets, Detroit’s own Hayes incited an industry bidding war that resulted in Interscope’s snatching him up. When Hayes dropped his mixtape, 24 Songs of Power, it quickly accrued over 60,000 hits on the web. The rap wolrd is ready for a new leader and Hayes is launching rap’s most succesful campaign.

Dr. Dre Talks "Detox" Delay, "I'm Working Hard On It"

As fans continue to wait for his highly-anticipated Detox album, Dr. Dre has assured them that he has been working diligently on the project.

Speaking at an in-store media conference, Dre also explained why he has to feel "right" about the solo project before dropping it.

"You know what, I'm working hard on it man," Dre promised during an in-store interview. "I'm going and I'm stopping, I'm working with other artists in-between and what have you, but I'm working hard on it and the minute it's done and I feel it right here [in my chest] and it feels right to me, that's when it'll come out. And you know, hopefully at the beginning of the year." (Ms. Drama TV)

Aftermath associate Game recently talked about working on the project with Dre and explained why fans should not worry about its delay.

"Man, I can't even describe [2001]... I would just say it's a classic West Coast album but it was world-renowned and it had an international appeal, like who from where didn't f*ck with that album?," Game asked in an interview. "With 2001 he just went back to do what he do best man and that's just trying to create the sun, moon, stars and Earth in seven days, man. The thing that stands out to me about 2001 is the same thing that stood out to me about Chronic -- Dre is a perfectionist and no matter when he coughs up an album, B, they be exactly what you need. I know it seem like he be taking forever with these albums but if you think about the time that passed between the Chronic and 2001, I think Detox is just about due. So it's not about him just making us wait, it's his format." (XXL Mag)

50 Cent also said he was recording for Detox around 2007.

"I don't even know what's going on with the Detox," Fif admitted in an interview. "The last [time] I spoke to Dre, he was actually not mixing my records because he was working on The Detox and then we finally got him to mix the records and you know, I think he's back in here producing records for it but I haven't heard [them], pretty much I think it was five or six songs that he actually recorded but that was a long time ago. He probably has a lot more now but I've been recording for The Detox two years ago." (Jam 'N 94.5

The Game and 50 cent on DETOX

Game and 50 Cent will appear on Dr. Dre’s highly anticipated Detox release “Everything is good. Both guys are gonna be on my record,” Dr. Dre said. “And you know, I’m just trying to put it back where it’s supposed to be, all love.” Dr. Dre made the statement during a press conference at Best Buy Union Square Location (for his Beats by Dre headphone line).

Game and 50 Cent both discussed their tense relationship. Talking about working together, 50 Cent said “I wouldn’t do it, I’d be on a record, a song, on the album, but not on that record with Game.” Game however stated he doesn’t mind working together. “I mean, I don’t know what 50’s problem is, but I’m here.”

Dr. Dre did not mention a specific release date for the Detox album. “The minute it’s done and it feels right to me, that’s when it’ll come our. Hopefully in the beginning of the year.” the Aftermath CEO said.

Dre About Detox

Dr. Dre first mentioned the Detox album to the press around 2000, and since that time various producers and vocalists have contributed with potential tracks.

“I’m not talking about lowriders and blunts and all that anymore. I mean, that’s played. As a matter of fact, I’m tired of hearing other people talk about it, to tell you the truth. I had to come up with something different but still keep it hardcore, so what I decided to do was make my album one story about one person and just do the record through a character’s eyes, and everybody that appears on my album is going to be a character, so it’s basically going to be a hip-hop musical.”

Dr. Dre mentioned that upstarts Bishop Lamont and Slim the Mobster will be featured on it, and that he would like to include anyone he has ever worked with.
